I loved Falcon, never tired of seeing it. What variety there used to be on the Railway!

Had it on the ECML for a while too. You're right about the variety of locos back then.

Back in the day, you could go to London cheaply from Reading and spend all day touring round....Class 23 and 30 at King's Cross, Class 15 at Liverpool St, Class 71 at Victoria, did we appreciate it? No, not really, just numbers in a book!

Ah, the all day London bash. Early train in, late train back with as many termini as possible in between. Throw in rush hour at Clapham Jct. and some underground spotting as well and the result was hundreds if numbers from umpteen different types. As you say though, it was all about the numbers.

we used to bunk OOC and Willesden as well.... and must have gone to Stratford I reckon because I spotted a few odd shunters .
Eastleigh was a favourite all day job too, saw the last of the Class 70's being shunted about the works , en route for scrap no doubt and some SR shunters...15xxxx series

Actually saw one of the Bulleid electrics in service, 20002. Before I had a camera of course.
Only shed I bunked pre '68 was Bedford. No steam but one of the Fowler departmental diesels ED3 was the "cop of the day" for me.

Funnily enough, I once saw ED3 at Reading, in the consist of a freight, maybe PW train, presumably diverted due to some incident on the Midland, cop of the day for me too. Also saw DS600 in Reading shed, hotbox on the way for scrap I think
