Fire in building at North Weald Station. E.O.Railway

The Fire Brigade were called to North Weald Station on Tuesday evening (29th Dec), following a fire in one of the temporary “Portable Cabins”. The fire has gutted the “Portable Cabin”, which was being used a temporary mess room and storage facilities while the station is being restored. The cause of the fire is unknown at present and currently the subject of a joint police and fire service investigation. Thankfully the fire has not affected any of the historic station buildings, and while the loss of this facility, and the tools inside is frustrating, this will not delay the re-opening of the railway. Security measures at the site have been upgraded, with new “night vision” surveillance cameras being installed, and the team are even more determined to complete the infrastructure improvements, restoring the station buildings, coaches and signals ready for re-opening.
