First Capital Connect, the new comapny formed by the takeover of the Thameslink franchise by First Group from Govia is working its first full days operation today

The trains run from Brighton, Wimbledon and Sutton in the south to Bedford and Luton north of London via the Snow Hill tunnel. It is believed the service will continue to use the dual voltage 319 units built in the early 1990s for the foreseeable future.

In a seperate story, First marked the start of the Greater Western franchise by organising jazz bands and magicians to perform at stations for passengers on a special service out of London Paddington.

The high-speed First Great Western service will combine with First Great Western Link and Wessex Trains under the new Greater Western franchise. The franchise is for seven years, with a possible three-year extension. A new livery if being planned.
