    60103 Flying Scotsman returns to the "Hampshire Alps" in March 2026 for a number of experience days:

    Premium Breakfast and Afternoon Tea Experiences
    13, 14, 15, 20 & 21 March 2026
    Travel with the legendary Flying Scotsman and enjoy a truly unforgettable journey with breakfast or afternoon tea, in our luxurious First Class dining carriages.

    Beginning at Alresford, you’ll have ample time to get close to this iconic locomotive, capture stunning photographs and create memories that will last a lifetime.

    Included in your itinerary, alongside your dining experience, you can hop aboard our Class 150 Sprinter Unit shuttle and travel through the glorious Hampshire countryside to Ropley. Here, you can watch Flying Scotsman pass by, explore our engineering headquarters and stroll across the footbridge originally from London’s King’s Cross, famously featured in Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps – the very bridge used by Robert Donat to escape on the train that inspired the Flying Scotsman’s name.

    Your complete experience lasts approximately four hours, including the Ropley visit, and we will provide a detailed itinerary in advance so you can make the most of your day.

    Your unforgettable day out begins at Alton, Hampshire, where you will step aboard one of our beautifully restored heritage steam trains to travel through the Hampshire countryside, to a truly iconic experience with Flying Scotsman.

    Following your itinerary, you will have the rare opportunity to get up close to the world-famous locomotive, with ample time to take photographs and soak up the atmosphere including the highlight of the day – travelling with Flying Scotsman on a spectacular round trip along the railway’s 10-mile line, covering a total distance of 20 miles.

    After further time to capture photographs and enjoy the moment, you will rejoin one of our heritage steam trains for a relaxed return journey to Alton.

    Refreshments will be available at Alresford Station, Alton Station, and onboard the services operating to and from Flying Scotsman.

    While at Ropley Station, take the opportunity to spend time watching Flying Scotsman pass through, discover the fascinating workings of our engineering headquarters, and stroll across the historic footbridge originally located at King’s Cross, London.     Start your experience from Alresford or Alton and join our heritage train which will take you to Ropley where Flying Scotsman will stand proudly on display outside our Engineering Works.

    Your ticket includes unlimited travel on our home-fleet locomotives, that will be running up and down the entire length of our line.

    Why not seize a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go beyond the barriers and experience the footplate of the legendary Flying Scotsman? Guests will stand where the crew work, taking in the atmosphere of this record-breaking icon.

    Your 30 minute experience includes time in the beautifully restored buffet car, where expert guides will share stories, insights, and technical details about this remarkable engine. Here, you can relax, ask questions, and enjoy refreshments available to purchase. This will be followed by a 5 minute footplate tour with a qualified locomotive crew.

    This activity will run between 11am and 4pm, in pre-booked 30 minutes timeslots, with plenty of time to walk around the locomotive and take photographs.

    Photography Experience with Nikon

    For one night only!

    Step into a rare after-hours experience capturing the iconic Flying Scotsman in all its splendour.

    This photography experience will give you the opportunity to get up close to 60103 Flying Scotsman in a small group, to capture some incredible shots of this magnificent locomotive.

    Hosted by Nikon training experts, in partnership with The Watercress Line’s in-house photography team, you will have hands-on expertise for any questions, tips and suggestions.

    With the scene set and other heritage home-fleet locomotives joining in the yard, you’ll have the chance to create dramatic images of this legendary locomotive.

    Whether you bring your own camera or wish to explore Nikon’s cutting-edge equipment (available by prior arrangement), you’ll be supported throughout by Nikon’s training experts. Their hands-on guidance will help you refine your skills, experiment with new techniques, and make the very most of this extraordinary subject.

    Light refreshments are included, giving you time to pause, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and plan your next shot.

    Please note this is not an accessible activity so guests will need to consider their mobility before booking.

    This experience will take place from 6.30pm – 9pm.
