Just a rumour at this stage I beleive - discussed at lenght on WNXX but not facts.

The emailed me at 6 this morning to get me to pay my subs - not necessarily the sign of a company going bust (not that I paid).

If you go to Companies House website and search for fotopic it says they are in liquidation.

Well, I've got the originals of all photos I've posted...

...so it's the captions that I'm more concerned about getting my hands on.

I've spent hours writing captions for my collections - including detailed research - and just posted them straight onto fotopic...

I've been meaning to make backup copies 'just in case' for ages..! #-o

  7. I think I have most of my original pics too but it would be nice to be allowed into our accounts to check it out and get off anything we want. After all they are our property at the end of the day.

I think you will find those are not the current companies providing the service.

    all rumours at this stage

If it has gone down, have to wonder how many people will bother to load their pics again into some other site. (they claimed 155m pics were loaded)

Isn't it funny. Lets rewind back a year ( or whenever it was ) to when Fotopic was unavailable for about a day, similar to what is happening now, we all claimed it was fault servers and such, blaming it on bad hosts etc.. . Now, as soon as are in this so called recession, we can blame it on the credit crunch and say the company is going into liquidation! #-o

Tell you what, the Rumor Mill is certainly not feeling any ill effects during these hard times, in fact it's doing more work than usual ](*,)

I am presently getting 'Page not found' whether I go via my normal shortcut or using various search engines. I suppose it's a case of wait and see at the moment. I don't have that many images on there and obviously keep the originals, manipulated copies and resized for upload on a back up hard drive. If it has gone for good I do feel sorry for those who have put in a lot of time and effort to produce excellent sites for us to enjoy.
During my search I did find that a site called FotoPic.com came near to the top of most search's so I am not sure if someone has decided to make a quick killing in some way? :-k

Update from Joel: "Fotopic.net was taken over by a company called Snappy Designs Ltd in May 2008 owned by ANY-Web Group, it is offline today due to a technical fault at Kingston Communications and I've been told by Snappy that it will be back sometime tonight (Friday). No statement has been issued by Fotopic.net. Directors have told me the company is solvent and this isn't related to it at all - I'd suggest you wait for the site to come back then I'm sure an official statement will be forthcoming."

    i just got sent this.

    thank god!

I hope it comes back soon. I'm beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!

The thought of having to re-upload some five and a half thousand pictures to another site just doesn't bear thinking about.

Or i could create my own site......that'd be a laugh!

    Lets look at the possibilites:
    FlickR,in my experience too slow?
    Imageshack......enough said
    Photobucket.....ditto
Is there anything remotley like Fotopic where you actually make a site?

You can't make a site on webshots but its very good for free, the uploads grow by 100 a month on free version, I currently have 2000 photos and 4000 capacity (still growing, I cant keep up).
And there is no limit on the amount of albums so far, plus you can upload video unlike flickr where you need a pro account.
