Not sure if any of you have seen this website... Kickstarter its a way for people on the Internet to pledge money for a project that then gets developed - what if it was used for new build steam locos? It could be argued that they are creative projects - a way of seeing an historical engineering masterpiece come back to life...

    What do you think?

An interesting idea but in order to register with Kickstarter you need to be a US company (easy to setup). I'm pretty sure there would be implications if you wanted to register with the charities commission or go for any government grants.
How about setting up a Kickstarter project to create a 'centre of engineering excellence'. Training apprentices with the skills necessary to build a new loco and maintain it from the smallest component to a new pacific boiler? I'd invest in that Kickstarter !
