All I can add is that Galatea's saviour the late Brian Oliver wanted Galatea to be turned out in LMS maroon, i.e. the same as his beloved Leander when under his custodianship.

I honestly believe that had Brian still been with us, that's exactly how she would have been turned out - many years ago.

And again it's the turning the livery into a trivial aspect which frustrates and makes a mockery of so-called restoration.

Another reason for asking the question: why? Why turn out the locomotive in a fictitious livery? I don't understand the mentality for doing so. Perfectly acceptable if one or the other livery, but why the combination? Just seems to spoil the ship for a ha'peth of tar.

Well, we all have a picture of the great Yorkshireman, he probably read all the livery froth on here prior to her launch, comments like "I'll be happy as long as it has a BR crest on the tender and 45699 on the cabside" He probably thought to himself "I'll give em B bloody R"......

    Pretty much covers it.
There was also the ruse to run it 1st April on its first outing carrying Leander identity. Hence the red, followed by froth, here to stay.
Odd really because said Yorkshireman was once interviewed in SR reminiscing about seeing green Staniers from the classroom window providing the motivation to own same.
    Nose and face?

Why not? Nowt wrong wi' it. At least it's running.
Don't get me wrong, I would prefer to see it in BR green but it's not my engine.
Maybe one day, who knows? It looks a darn sight better than it did 40 years ago.
If anybody doesn't like the colour there's always Photoshop!

Red liveries are popular with the (large) number of youngsters who were introduced to the thrill of steam by the Hogwarts Express!

Really? I think it really is just the fact that 'variety is the spice of life' and most locos are turned out in black or green. Reds and blues are different andvstand out more because of it, do they tend to be more popular. I bet if most locos were in red and blue we'd all look forward to something in black or green!

And those Alberta nameplates that were made specially must look far better on the wall at home in "gods own county".

That was the pre froth plan heard, recognising the contribution of 45562 in making 45699 complete once more. The name 'Galbertea' has been bandied too.
Perhaps when the good lady grants ....... or if 46115 gets the maroon treatment after its next overhaul to keep a steamer in house colours.

If livery is not trivial, what about a Giesl ejector on a Bulleid?

Clearly not the same thing at all - not only improves performance but several class members were fitted with it, so there is historical and practical precedents for that.
