This weekend is to celebrate 50 years of running on the preserved GCR. It is hoped that many of the original workers and supporters will be attending. Several displays etc will be at Quorn and the other stations.
A spectacular 50@50 Freight train is planned to run!

Boscastle (34039) is also going to be on display at Quorn. It will not be in steam though as its boiler is still at LMS in Loughborough.

Are there any visiting locos at all?

Be lovely if 45231 could visit, I used to get fed up of seeing her seeming every weekend when I was younger It would be ace for her to visit- bring back some memories of sitting in Quorn yard in the sun with my dad watching trains pass.

They are trying to get one (not identified) per a facebook post on the event, but nothing confirmed yet.

    46100 perhaps?
Be nice to a Royal Scot chuffing up and down the line, just like they did during the GC's final years.

Interesting that Colin McKettle is escaping from the Mountsorrel Heritage Centre and will be at Quorn & Woodhouse station yard for the event - I didn't spot that yesterday!
I'm guessing that will be the "Driver for £10" loco?

Quite correct Johann. The 50@50 freight train on Sat is due to have 9F power, with 92214 pulling it.

I will be doing double duty between the Windcutter and Boscastle displays on Sat and Sunday. Really looking forward to that 50@50 train!
It is also a great chance to meet up with some other founder members of the MLPG/MLST. (I am proud to be MLPG member #10).

apart from both being main line passed and roading them will then entail extra checks before return to the mainline the cost of which has to be covered somewhere

Quorn yard has been tidied following the 1940's weekend and there are two Windcutter wagons on display, ready to show "Before" and "After" the work of our restoration team.

    Hi Ashley
I believe all the steam engines are facing South.

It seems they aren't getting a visitor anyway.
The 50@50 freight sounds better, don't you think?

Does "Colin" count as a visitor? It is doing "Driver for a Tenner" in Quorn yard.

I would say so, it's a guest locomotive from a different railway, spending the weekend in the company of giants in a unfamiliar and remote shed. It's just the travel arrangements are very convenient ;)

Edit: Plus, isn't Iris a long term visitor?
