Just a quick one, the works to Whillan Beck were almost entirely carried out on a contract basis at Old Hall Engineering down in South Cumbria who are also providing some on site engineering support on a pro-rata basis going forward if I recall the latest magazine correctly?

BTW as per earlier requests I will now change the thread title to something more RER generic!

I should have said earlier I think that's a bit of a shame… I've rather liked having a dedicated thread about the journey of Whillan Beck. Wouldn't it be nicer to move the general R&ER posts to a new general R&ER thread…? Or is it too late now.

Mods can do whatever they want, to be honest when you consider the extent of engineering work required its probably Esk and @Nigel Day that deserves their own thread!!

Oh and can we have no more use of 'journey' please, this isn't the X Factor! ;)

Finally for anyone who is interested River Mite has arrived at the RHDR today for their gala.

So ...... who gets to line and letter the tender?
(Wozzat? Jam too? Ooh .... yes please!)
    +1

Workshops in the off-season can be cold, lonely places when you're just one solitary bod surrounded by a mountain of barely identifiable chunks of worn metal (in Esk's case, warped too) .... If @Nigel Day doesn't deserve a medal for this superb resurrection (which, IMO, he does!), he certainly deserves our heartfelt thanks for keeping us lot up to date during the restoration. So .... Cheers Nigel! :)

I'm just watching a few of YouTube clips from the last few days (it's so convenient to to have a YouTube channel on the telly) and it's wonderful to see so much in steam (or gurgling) around Ravenglass .... and 'new kid' WB really is easy on the eyes in that gorgeous blue livery.

I, we build locos so they work out of the box. It's simply not professional to have to take an engine half apart again to sort something that should have done properly first time. To have it run test 3 with only a few things to deal with is good. It was sorting, fitting the brake and air system pre test 3. There is now just little things and lessons to sort. The fact I can now think about painting shows how close to finishing we are. No dates are set for entering service yet. What you can see is prep for paint. Due to other distractions yesterday it would have been further done and there is wet paint around. No testing is due this week because of bank holiday.

On another positive note Willan Beck is stacking the miles up very well and trouble free.
