International consultancy Gleeds has been brought in by Bombardier to project manage the construction of Crossrail’s new train depot in north west London.

Gleeds will project and cost manage the project at Old Oak Common for Bombardier, which in February was awarded a £1 billion contract to build 65 trains for the flagship railway project.

As well as providing a boost for Bombardier Derby, TfL has said the contract will support the equivalent of 55,000 full-time jobs around the rest of the UK after confirming that at least 25 per cent of the contract’s value will go to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Gleeds has been working on Crossrail since 2010, surveying properties along the length of the route.

Martin Smalley, head of pail for Gleeds, said: “We are delighted to be working with Bombardier again, having worked on the construction of their Burton depot some years ago.

“We will be drawing on our international project and cost management experience to deliver a value for money solution.”

Preparatory works are due to start on site at Old Oak Common in April 2014, with construction commencing in August.
