Did a little research on the GVT and came upon the GVTG and GVTT websites, including the 'we aren't the GVTT page' on the GVTG's website. All sounds pretty unfriendly and thick. Not wishing to muck stir but is there no way some amicable agreement could be reached?

The 2' 6" proposed by the GVTT (and seemingly disliked by the GVTG) is very close to the original gauge and will enable stock to be brought from outside much more easily than sticking to the very arcane original gauge. There ought to be room for both a tourist railway and heritage attraction in this venture?

If material is being sought from Europe I would have thought that 750mm equipment was more easily available than 762mm. Also building it at that gauge would only be 26mm above its original gauge. Surely the GVTG would think that that was a concession!

Its a good job that the two projects are unlikely to meet in the middle ... :/

The "Group" seems to have a massive stick up it's bottom over all of this, and they come across as very bitter! Maybe it's because the "Trust" seem to be moving a lot faster and more successfully then the "Group" are. There is a balance between history and heritage, and sometimes groups get so caught up trying to be historically accurate that the whole heritage experience consists of a stuffy room with some books and a yard of track. It's not a critisism of either group, and I'd like to see them both work together to create a real experience that promotes the heritage of the Ceiriog Valley...

Why not split the diference and go for 2' 3"? Now that could open up the options for some interesting visitors (and a few historic ones)!!! :)

The steam locos will be hired in initially and the coaches will be 4 wheelers built on MOD frames. We have contacts for various equipment. We do not have any track yet. Over the last 14 months we have focused all our efforts and finances on getting planning consent. Financial and organisational plans are being developed to maintain momentum and start working parties.

We invite members of Nat Pres to join the 250 existing members of Glyn Valley Tramway Trust to help rebuild probably last little train of Wales yet to be restored and the nearest to the border with England. We are next to a World Heritage Site and our project will not only re-instate the first part of this unique line, it will have a cross platform link with Network Rail, a dedicated halt at a Caravan Club site and is in walking distance of the Shropshire Union Canal. Gaining planning permission is only a first step on our journey to put the Tramway back on the railway map. We have to build nearly everything from the ground up, we are looking for people who are keen to help the GVT Trust with a whole range of jobs that are needed as well as donating money and promoting our aims. We enjoy strong support from the Welsh Assembly, local authorties and the local community are behind us, we just need an initial boost and some keen volunteers. Be in it from an early stage -Welsh narrow gauge pioneering at its best. Visit us at The Glyn Valley Tramway Trust
