Three more GoldLinQ trams have arrived on the Gold Coast to begin testing.

Five of regions new fleet of 14 trams have now been delivered as part of a $1.2 billion Gold Coast light rail project – an 18-year PPP between the Queensland State Government and GoldLinQ consortium.

The new Flexity 2 vehicles will operate on the first phase of the new system between Gold Coast University Hospital and Broadbeach.

Speaking on the GoldlinQ website, Chief executive Phil Mumford said: “All trams have now finished production with the last of the 14 being tested in Bombardier’s German and Austrian facilities before shipping to Australia.

“The next three are on the high seas and due to arrive in Brisbane in November.”

The first two Gold Coast trams arrived in the Port of Brisbane on September 10, having been shipped from Germany. All of the new light rail vehicles are scheduled to be delivered by early 2014 and are expected to begin passenger service from mid-2014.
