The GCR will once again be hosting a Railway's at Work Gala from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd May, featuring as usual an extensive timetable with demonstration goods trains, shunting demonstrations at Quorn and much more.
Highlights will include guest locomotives 4247 from the Bodmin & Wenford Railway and SDJR no. 53808 from the West Somerset Railway. Highlight from the home fleet will be Ivatt 2MT 46521 repainted in Brunswick Green Livery for the first time since returning to service in 2011. Also from the home fleet will be 6990 Witherslack Hall, 45305, 92214 and 47406.

    The GCR website now states:

***Latest news 06.05.16: GWR 42xx Class 2-8-0t No. 4247 will now not feature at the Gala after arriving at GCR and being certified as unfit to run. Obviously, we are very disappointed and our current plan is to replace 4247 with ex LMS 2-8-0 no 48624 ***

Is there any more info' available on the problem?

Passenger Timetables are now on the GCR website. No Freight timings but I expect those would be available on the day.

Looks like two different goods trains out on the Saturday. If you want to see one south of Rothley you need to get down there before the first passenger train.

Do you have the timetable with the extra slots in? I'm there Sunday, just trying to work out what's best to do.

Well, I really enjoyed the gala as far as travelling on the trains was concerned today, got in a round trip from Loughborough to both Rothley and Leicester, and the weather surpassed all forecasts and was pretty sunny!

Though our visit was somewhat marred by our visit to Kinchley Lane, where some self-professed "enthusiasts" (photographers) were talking loudly while people were videoing, and even swore very loudly at some orange-jacketed line side photographers who had the audacity to get in their frames...

Oh well, my video will be up later, anyway, and thanks again to the GCR for a great gala :)
