    An unexploded Victorian gunpowder blasting charge has been found at Swanage Railway this week.

    Vintage 1884 gunpowder safely flushed out, remains removed and duly exploded in local field.

    Heritage Railway Volunteer:
    Yes I am an active volunteer
    And minimal disruption caused to services. Short delay while we got authority to pass the site, and then a 5mph TSR until the charge was removed.

    Certainly focuses the mind while you're driving past!

    How lucky the incident wasn't dealt with by Surrey police. The whole of the Isle of Purbeck would still be evacuated today.
