GWR 2-8-0 No3803 on the BATTLEFIELD LINE - Shackerstone

Hi everybody. Just putting it out there that GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 No3803 is still on her holidays at the Battlefield Line : 'Leicestershire's Best Kept Secret'. The Heavy Freight 2-8-0 will be providing Sunday Steam Services on the 5-mile long former ANJR route over the coming weeks. She will also be participating in various events throughout the year and will be providing Saturday services in the summer months too! Keep your eye on the railways website (battlefield-line-railway.co.uk) for more details. For now, why not pop along and experience some country charm behind one of Swindon's veterans.

The tranquil line runs from Shackerstone; a calm village with a lovely local pub, 'The Rising Sun'; across beautiful countryside to Market Bosworth, where there is the opportunity to either leave or join the train. A further journey through cuttings, under bridges and across fields brings the train to the site of the infamous Battle of Bosworth fields at Shenton, where Richard III famously lost his crown to Henry VII screaming "My Kingdom for a Horse"! Many walks can be started from here, to the Battlefield Visitor Centre or to Sutton Wharf where boat trips are available during the season. Alternatively, why not break your journey with a cuppa' at the Shenton Station Cafe. At Shackerstone, there is the Museum, Cafe and Shop, not to mention a wealth of rolling stock to view.
