Has anyone been to York National Railway Museum? Opinions please?

    It's brilliant and you must go. It's a big site and they've got a fine collection of steam locos from the 19th century up to the mid-1960s, also a workshop with a viewing gallery - they are currently working on the Flying Scotsman, I believe. The record-breaking Mallard is on display. There are also diesel and electric locos, and mock-up signal box which has a live link to the real York Station signal box, so you can see what's going. Latest attraction is the Wheel which is a slightly smaller version of the "London Eye". Museum entry is free

    Sorry to be pedantic, but Mallard is currently having a holiday at Locomotion, Shildon.

    Having said that, I quite agree, NRM is well worth visiting.....(both York and Shildon)
    (and if you have been before - then make a return visit!)
