Restoration progress is going well but the project team received a set back when they arrived at the workshop this morning to find that the two brass draincocks for the Hunslet loco, ready to be assembled this week, had been stolen when the site suffered a break in last night.

The drains have lasted for over 130 years and have now probably been thrown in a scrap bin to yield little more than a couple of pounds.

The drains are prominently marked 287 - one with a lever, the other not, and if anyone should come across them or be offered the items in due course, please let us or our local Police liaison officer know.

We imagine that there are few if any spare Hunslet drain cocks from 1883 now in existance - a sad day all round!

    Thanks,
