It's not O class because I've seen a pic of one with a dome that's too large for this one, a brass GWR-style safety valve, and a different cab profile. The only other HR 4-4-0Ts I've read of are the P class and the "Yankee Tanks", no pics seem to be available.
But you probably found that out already, Neil.

Could it be a North British 4-4-0T on loan to the HR?

BTW, have you seen my question on your Midland Railway thread on this forum?

One of a class of three engines originally built as 2-4-0T 'Jones Tank': No58 Burghead built 12/78, rebuilt in 1885, LMS 15011, withdrawn 2/28.

"70 David Jones L Class 4-4-0s (Highland Railway)

No70 was the first of the Jones 'Skye Bogie' class. Built 5/82, LMS 14277, Withdrawn 12/29

"79 Atholl David Jones E Class 4-4-0 (Highland Railway)
    http://www.steamlocomotives.photos.g...p62550309.html"

No79 was the fourth engine in the 'Clyde Bogie' class. Built 6/86, renumbered 79A 3/17, withdrawn 1923.

Thanks, I stand corrected. Perhaps the photo I saw was of a model? Made by a GWR fan with imagination?
