Looking on the Hornby web site tonight there is a link to train sets for a possible Xmas gift . I wonder how many people will consider buying a train set has a Xmas gift for someone. The starting price is £59.99 for the cheapest train set which consists of one loco and three wagons with oval track and track mat. I can’t see these train sets holding somebody’s attention for very long. In my opinion you would need to buy the East Coast Pullman train set to hold anyone attention for a long period of time. But the retail price is £274.00 which becomes a major Xmas gift and couldn’t be bought without knowing that someone would get reasonable use from.

The last train set I had was in 1999/2000, and forms the basis of my current 6'x4' layout. Although the scenery has changed with improvements in my modelling skills, the basic layout has reamined the same. As such I tend to just buy/receive locomotives, rolling stock and scenery now.
