My brother called in yesterday on his way back from the Telford show. His '0' gauge 'Palethorpes' GUV that he built was 2nd in it's class. The winner was a GNER 'teak' coach, scratch built from teak, not plasticard or balsa or any other easy to use material, but the real thing. Now that's taking realism to the nth degree.

I sometimes go a bit over the top in detailing things that cannot be seen on my layout.. it's just the fact that I know they are there. I'm tempted to add point rodding to the front area of the layout, although it'll only be a representation rather than an accurately modelled, fully functioning system of locking and interlocking. I've already done a representation of signal wiring using cotton thread and spare track pins, and I am intending to use thin plastic strips to act as stakes holding the wire in position. I need to buy some etched brass cranks to finish it off. I felt it was best to do the signal wire first, as it'll then be possible to find out where to place the point detectors.

The only problem with using the 'real' material - in this case teak, is that by my eye it could do with a little staining to bring it down to a more realistic colour, looks a little bright to me.
