I expect a few loco's to linger on with EWS colours for many years, but can we expect a few loco's to get them in preservation other than those purchased in that condition? Or maybe something similar to 50035 that never actually carried them in revenue earning service?

Given German efficiency I wouldn't bet on any of the serviceable fleet still bearing EWS livery this time next year. I find it frankly a bit depressing that we will be seeing DB all over the UK network.

    Why?

At least they're European and not Stateside as per previous owners

does anyone feel that seeing DB Schenker enbalzoned on loco's running on BRITISH railways is actually a tad offensive ? if we were painting german locos in union jacks what do you think the reaction would be ?

I just think its a shame that the national operator cannot carry its English, Welsh and Scottish branding.

I agree, that it will be a shame to see what has become an iconic livery pass into the annals, but these days its about brand recognition and corporate identity for the benefit of the operator, well the shareholders!

I personally couldn't give a toss. I think it's a quite smart livery. Anyone who gets offended from seeing DB on the side of the locomotive should consider how many franchises are owned by foriegn companies or consider what it's like in central Europe when locomotives of many nations pass through.

    Typically small minded opinions really.

Using a Preservation arguement, their DB Schenker's loco's, they can paint Michael Schumacher on the side if they like!.

DB already has interests in Chiltern and Wrexham & Shropshire, two of the better TOC's out there, personally i'd rather have the German run trains effeciantly than the Yanks or worse still our management types talk about their grand plans and implement surveys while their work and rail empire crumbles around them.

It isn't exactly difficult to have the entire operational fleet painted by next year given virtually anything non 66 is getting stored due to the freight downturn, least the 60's will still be servicable when they are required again, unlike EWS antics with 37's, 56's & 58's.

British loco's, you mean thos CANADIAN built 66's and SPANISH built 67's ?, anythign British with pride on the network is long gone im afraid.

I hate to spoil a good fight but to bring this back on topic...

...apart from 31466 at the Dean Forest and 37109 at the East Lancs how many other OPERATIONAL EWS liveried locos in preservation then?

We had a Pway wagon in EWS livery, its been painted green now I think. It was nice seeing EWS livery on the S&CR, I will always have a soft spot for them.

Ah well, I have a EWS drivers bag with the three beasties logo on!
