Had this video of 5407 on the S&C from 1984 sent to my YT subscription today by PSOV. Made me wince.

I can only assume that there was serious water carry-over preventing the regulator from being closed. Surely no driver would willingly allow such a protracted slip in other circumstances.

Could well be. There is a distinct surge in power around 15/16 seconds into the video.

Or other footplate members. You can see that it was finally stopped by the engine being wound into mid gear, which would suggest the regulator couldn't be shut.

All my computer is showing where the video should be is a blank area - the same is true on all threads with videos - any idea why? Been like that for a couple of weeks.

    Thanks

same here, I think NP have blocked youtube vids. if you quote the post, the embed code will appear. copy and paste that into a tab alreasdy open with youtube on the end of the youtube.com part, should get you to the right video.

edit, just tried this and it doesn't work, I did this the other day  I'll keep playing...

got it, youtube.com/watch?v=[insert code bit here]

Works OK for me (Safari / Mac) - so I wonder if it is browser-specific rather than site-specific? Have you done an upgrade recently?

Anyway, the video in question is here:

Aye and, luckily for them, youtube hadn't been invented. It makes one wonder what all the armchair experts did to occupy their time back in the fifties and sixties. ;-)

My computer has a firewall and all NP pages get a "only secure content displayed" footer. With the message displayed the video is invisible. if I allow all content to be displayed the video appears and is viewable. Perhaps others have the firewall but dont get the message banner. just a thought from a computer luddite.

The latest version of Firefox will block embedded video content. All you have to do on the page you are interested in is to click to the left of the address bar where there is a shield. The drop down menu then gives you the option of 'disabling protection'. Then you will get YouTube but only on that page. You have to do it all again for the next page if there's video embedded. A little inconvenient but it's just Firefox looking after us all.
