The RAIB has released the report into the Lavington collision. HST's are probably old enough to be classed as heritage traction.

Having read this report, and presuming that none of us in the Heritage sector is operating this stock!!! The main points of interest are:

The confusion apparent regarding use of mobile phones, and availability to traincrew of the relevant signalbox numbers.

Identification of exact location of train for rescue purposes.

The condition of trees on neighbours land, and how to assess them.

Having also read the report it does need to be something for the heritage movement to monitor also given the number of trees which grow on adjoining land. In a similar scenario on the SVR or GWR - for example - who would be responsible and - more importantly - whose insurers would pay any costs accruing from damage to trains / infrastructure ?
