Really enjoyed looking at those Neil, thanks!

Just wondering if you have any other collections or info of Huddersfield station's history? I use the station regularly and am particularly fascinated by the development of the platform usage over the years. The existing numbering suggests significant changes have happened at some point (1 & 2 in the 'wrong' order if numbering goes South to North, and 3 & 7 'missing'). The present platform 1 seems to have been widened (originally a continuation of present platform 2 for full length of station?), and there are possible disused bays south of platform 2 (original platform 1?) and south of platform 8 on the west side (originally 7 as your photos suggest). That still leaves a missing 3 - possibly another short bay at the east side, south of 1 just outside the main canopy? And were 5 and 6 always so ridiculously short?

Which of the three through platforms were originally the main lines - and were these shared by the Machnester and Pennistone/Meltham/Holmfirth routes going westbound? Or was Hudds always a terminus for the latter branches?

Just my bored musings while waiting for another delayed train!

    Ben.

Edit - As this has got me interested I've just done some searching and found photos and comments which confirm my suggestions (except 1 & 2 were always numbered in present order) - still appreciate any info on what the various platforms were actually used for. Original platforms 1 & 4 seem most obvious as the main through up/down platforms, with a pair of 'fast' lines running between them. So what was 8 used for? And why is 8 now the main eastbound through platform despite having a severe curve where it rejoins the straight route from P4 at the east side? Perhaps because only P4 has access to all up/down routes for terminating/reversing trains so is more useful for that purpose?

Everything has been renumbered as you say, there used to be 4 tracks between Platform 1 & 4

There were numerouse bays & goods depot at the viaduct end of platform (now) 1 used to be called the fish dock it was then used as a parcels platform and a class 08 used to be stabled there which on a weekend was used for the Sat only holiday trains (i have some pics of this but not on the site yet)

Not sure of platform 3 big flower bed was no. 7. 5 & 6 have been shortened not sure when

    Hope that helps
