This might be of interest to some:

The plate is from Hunslet works no 779 of 1902 'Holy War' based on the Bala Lake Railway.

It would be nice to see the plate reunited with the loco...

It has a stippled background, which suggests it is a copy. I am certain the original plates did not have this and had a smooth background.

I have one from RUSSELL which has the same backing, and that is a copy!

I notice the seller says "maid of brass" - is this some kind of iron maiden...!? ;)

There are some pics from 1967 here including one of Holy War's worksplate - it looks the same. I posted the link here in case it was of interest, but I have no connection to the sale and make no claims as to its authenticity!

I think I stand corrected. I have also looked in the Cliff Thomas Hunslet Book and a number of them appear to have a stippled background... This could be genuine?

There are loads of copies of this plate in circulation.

Ive had 3 of these "Holy War" plates through my hands for our museum. They have been of varying quality. The one we have on display looks very authentic but the backs never been near a loco!
