The Ministry of Transport in Sri Lanka and RITES, a subsidiary of Indian Railways, have reached an agreement for the modernisation of Colombo-Matara line (South-Western Sri Lanka). The project has been estimated at $ 167 Million (EUR 117.3 Million) and will enable trains to reach speeds of 100 km/h. Under the agreement, Sri Lanka will receive 20 diesel units, 3 locomotives, while 600 of its employees will benefit from professional training activities.
