    The safety measures adopted by Indian Railways resulted in the declining number of train accidents in the last years. Thus, from 415 accidents in 2001-2002, in 2007-2008, the number of accidents dropped to 194 and to 177 in 2008-2009. The measures taken include timely replacement of over-aged assets, adoption of suitable technologies for upgrading and maintenance of track, measurement of overstressing of track and bridges, rolling stock, signalling and interlocking systems, safety drives and inspections [...]
