Introduction Hai Phong - Kunming railway

    In trade between Vietnam and China, travel demand and transport by rail of people two country is quite high. Thus a railway connecting the city of Hai Phong in Vietnam to Kunming, China opened. It was built early last century 1900 to since 1910. In about 10 years over 60,000 indigenous people and hundreds of law involved in building it. According to some historical documents record the 12,000 local workers and 80 people died when the French built, nearly half of which is malaria.

    This train line is built to run on rails 1.1 meters wide. The entire route is 855km long total, of which there are two road routes is the distance from Hai Phong to Lao Cai long 390km and from Lao Cai to 465km Kunming. The topography of the railway line is complex, hilly places even higher than 1900m above sea level. To overcome this, one must dig tunnels through mountains 173 and 158 bridges to ships can pass through. This is a difficult challenge with technical conditions at the time.

    Currently the Chinese government is planning to rebuild the rail line to match international standards. Specific rail will be extended up to 1.435 m. They set an ambition to build a railway linking China to other countries.

    In the last trip, it takes 8 hours for me to depart from hanoi to laocai. Then i must take bus from Ha khau bus station to kunming. You can pick up the same route as me .     It seems from numerous reports on the Chinese bulletin boards that the line is still operational at the northern end, and there is still a pax service between Shizui and Wangjiaying (which may be for school children). The existing line is spectacular, but its utility is limited by the frequent landlsides between Kaiyuan and Hekou.
