    ........that would document the last steam in service on the WR, particularly at Reading General, after steam finished on the WR in 1965. ?

    I know anecdotally that 34037 Clovelly caused a sensation at RG appearing there light engine in probably 1967. Was this the last one?
    I never heard of one later, but I would assume inter-regionals to Oxford or Banbury could have had steam haulage late in the day

    Why I'm asking is I'm trying to get my head around dates. My first contact with railways (other than a visit to Clapham ) was a Taplow open day. These were 1965/6/7 and as I only went once, I assume it was 1967, in which case I missed steam by a whisker! It's only just dawned on me that in the following 10 years there was a steam ban, a Return to Steam in 1971 and the Hydraulics were all gone by 77. What a decade of change!
