Are there others? Do complicated Timetables put people off visiting??? Sorry if there is already a thread somewhere.

    Any thoughts...

Main difficulty with the timetable is due to opening to Pont Croesor part way into the season and so effectively two different timetables are needed. One just to Hafod-Y-Llyn and the second once open further. The timetable also caters for other specials such as the bangers and mash trains. My main query and I assume logistics is why the 8.00 train from Dinas couldn't start from Caernarfon.

Regarding timetables I'm sure I've seen worse.

I'm sure that the FR/WHR management have thought through the cost/benefit of starting the 0800 Dinas back from Caernarfon. It would affect train crew working hours on duty with signing on duty an hour or more earlier to run ECS to Caernarfon for very little traffic. I don't think it is complex. Look carefully and you will see that it is two core services depending on how far the line is open with extras added for peak and high peak services. The FR has for many years tailored it's level of service to previous customer levels by day of the week.

If you want a really complex timetable, the SNCF timetable for Paris - Brittany services is amazing. It used to include every dated train for public holidays and schools workings with a dozen or more footnotes per page. (It made the old GBTT Table 51 Cross Country North East/South West look simple.) Also SNCF hadn't got round to running a "standard hour" base service and there was the 2 hour break in service for track inspections as well.

    Cheers, Neil

Thanks. Makes a lot more sense thinking about it from that perpective.

I must admit I have seen many simpler ones, but as said complexity is somewhat inevitable. The biggest problem I have with is is that my screen shows little contrast between the Pink and Purple days, so I have to ask myself each time, what colour it is. No doubt the printed version is easier to read
