After a break of 15 months, the publication of IWSR Website Loco News has resumed. A tremendous amount has happened at Havenstreet since the last edition was published; highlights are the significant progress being made in the overhauls of Terrier W11 Newport, which includes the fitting of a brand new boiler, and Ivatt 41298. It is hoped that, if all goes to plan, both locomotives will be in steam this autumn.

Also an interesting fact is noted - at the end of steam on the Island there were 11 steam and 1 diesel locomotive based at Ryde Shed; the IWSR now owns 12 steam and 3 diesel locomotives, giving some idea of the scale of the task that faces our mechanical engineering staff and volunteers.

It's good to have this facility back. Exciting times at the IWSR!
This is not meant to be a criticism, but the line would persuade me to visit much more frequently than I do (and spend lots of dosh) if it had a loco roster on the website. It costs a few bob to cross the water, and I'm just not prepared to travel to Smallbrook only to spend the day behind anything industrial or austere! I know that there are those who post here who see up to date loco rosters as an unreasonable expectation, but in my case, no roster usually means my party of four goes elsewhere!

The situation at the moment is both Austerities in service, W24 is on the wheeldrop with the front drivers out, W8 is in for a repaint. W11 is progressing very well, expect to see it in service late season.

I'd appreciate a heads up on when/if a Terrier or Calbourne might next be in steam? Fancy a trip over the water! Many thanks if you can help!!

Is that a 1923 stock tube car I see behind the Austerities? Didn't know you had one of them.

With good weather forecast, the promise of Freshwater will probably do the trick and entice me to make my first visit of the year. Thanks for your reply. Is all well with Calbourne?

Calbourne is on the wheeldrop having attention to its axleboxes, all being well it will be back in service mid August, W11 Newport, 41298 and Ajax all making good progress as well, so much to do! Not forgetting washouts and exams.

Are things looking promising on the loco front for the October Gala? Two terriers, Calbourne and 41298, will make an excellent line up !?!
