I wonder how much ticket prices will have to increase by in order to pay for all these extra stewards to stand by a door all day?! I’m sure the ORR could have been a bit more pragmatic. Have they seen rail tours in Germany for example? Half opening windows with everyone enjoying themselves whilst in the UK we are confined to our seat. Might as well just do the journey on a 156.

All that is required by ORR is that it should be stewarded exactly the same as any other WCRC train when promoted by e.g. RTC. No more no less. The fact that ORR have allowed all other WCRC Mark 1 workings to continue indicates they are presumably happy with current arrangements (until 30 Sep or the Judicial Review happens anyway!).

@jamesd Please explain how a regulator such as ORR can "be a bit more pragmatic" when WCRC have apparently just ignored, even after a warning, the requirements which they themselves have set out in their safety case?

Handshakes between trains under parallel running at Dresden and Germans are allowed to clamber over the track bed to foto, difference is the lack of common sense and appreciation of risk by British people. American and Australian railtours also feature open cars and legs dangling over the sides.

Rather than worry about spelling and punctuation surely WCRC should be looking to get the Jacobite up and running as soon as possible. A major tourist attraction has suffered because of the ORR decision not to mention the loss of revenue to businesses in Mallaig.
It would appear that the train will be operational again soon but why did WCRC ignore the ORR and not react?
I very much doubt I will get a positive response!

Simple - because I have no intention of discussing it on this forum.

I mean tbf do you expect WCR to comment on here? Every railway publication I read it says “WCRC have not responded to our request for comment” or words to that effect so I very much doubt you’ll get anytning on here if they won’t tell the railway press.

They’ve said all they wish to say in their statements on their website and I can’t blame them for not wanting to say more.

That’s your choice and that’s fine.
Personally I’ve always found communication skills don’t seem to be a particularly strong point from the organisation that you work for.
    As we’ve recently found out.

Again depends what type of communication you are referring to?

The stories we’ve seen about passengers being told hours before departure, or arriving at the station to be told it’s cancelled, etc may be true, but we can’t verify that. If they are true, I agree that WCRC’s communication in that front has been poor. And perhaps they have learnt from this.

If you’re referring to WCR not telling us what’s happening to the last detail, we’ll they rarely comment on matters, and if they won’t tell the railway press us mere mortals have no chance.

I wouldn’t expect a full and detailed explanation from West Coast (as I’ve just found out!)

But it’s rather interesting that someone rather senior at 10A has the time to pull someone up about the use of the English Language in their job add on here rather than just do what’s the usual response from 10A and say just say nothing.
West Coast has certain aspects of its business that’s in the same business as my own in hospitality.
I don’t expect to know all the ins, outs and shake it all about’s of its business, but with what’s happened recently, how could a little bit of honesty and transparency really hurt?

It’s the middle of the school summer holidays. Loads of kids wanting to travel on the “Hogwarts Express" over Glenfinnan viaduct.
Do you not feel you’ve let them down?
    Presumably not by your attitude.

It does I agree seem odd there was time to reply to that but not make anything more of a constructive comment.

But then again following my clash with the person concerned the other day and his way with words and his manner then, I’m not really surprised. He also ignored a personal message I sent, no surprise again. And several people I spoke to on Saturday say it’s not unusual for the person to behave like lord of the manor, looking down on the mere peasants we are!

But that being said, WCRC have always been quite private and this must be embarrassing to some degree for them. I’m sure they’ve done what they felt was appropriate.

I mean I love your question, but are you likely to get an answer from the “lovely” JS?? More chance of pigs flying than I think!

It could explain why some of those in charge have had problems reading what the ORR have asked West Coast to do then…

The difference is that this is just a chat room. What we were looking at was a formal communication from a company that has a national/international footprint. One would have hoped that the difference between the two was obvious.

That said, let's hope that the advert brings people forward to help out.
