Six youths who robbed Kent school pupils as they travelled on trains have been jailed for three years or more.

The muggers, known as "steamers" stole valuables and money from Dartford Grammar School children last year.

Two youths got community rehabilitation orders, and two other defendants, aged 18 and 19, will be sentenced this month at Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court.

Steaming is a slang phrase describing often violent attacks by gangs on individuals on trains or buses.

More than 20 boys were mugged by the youths, who were all from south east London, as they travelled on trains between Dartford and London, the court was told.

The school pupils were robbed of items including mobile phones, iPods and travel cards in a series of muggings which began in February 2005 and continued for two months.
