Swiss contractor Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group has secured the future of Universale-Bau employees following an announcement in October last year of plans to acquire the Austrian firm.

Chief executive of the newly-formed subsidiary Bahnbau Wels, Oswald Ortner, said “For us it is important that we can now offer a future to the many employees of Universale” in an announcement confirming the takeover last week.

Universale-Bau, a subsidiary of the insolvent Alpine construction group, employs around 100 staff in its track division and 50 in civils.

“In the last few days our subsidiary Bahnbau Wels (BBW), with registered offices in Bregenz and Wels has submitted an offer for the immediate acquisition of the Alpine subsidiary,” said Hubert Rhomberg, chief executive of the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group.

Contracts have now been signed but no purchase price was disclosed.
