Narrow gauge Peckett 0-6-0ST Jurassic is to return to steam at the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway, thanks to a £43,600 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The boiler has already been moved to the North Norfolk Railway’s Weybourne works for assessment, while the rest of the locomotive is to be overhauled at the LCLR’s base of the Skegness Water Leisure Park. The aim is to have it back in steam next year.

Interpretation boards, leaflets and a video will be used to interpret the locomotive and its place in the story of narrow gauge railways.

Built in 1903 (W/No. 1008), Jurassic went to Southam Lime Works in Warwickshire and was preserved by the LCLR in 1961. It was a regular performer on the line’s first site at Humberston, near Cleethorpes, until it closed in 1985. It has been awaiting overhaul since the collection was moved to Skegness ten years later.
