I'm very proud to say that I volunteer at the Kent & East Sussex Railway Catering Department and that we have just been awarded 5*'s in the Scores on the Doors and have also gained the Ashford Clean Food award too.
Its good to see our efforts noticed by the local council.

My wife and I enjoyed an excellent Sunday roast at Tenterden station earlier this month. Well done to all concerned

The train ride to Bodiam was good too!

    Thanks for the positive comments!

It's great to see that the efforts of our team have been recognised by the award of the top star rating in this national scheme - we have the highest rating in the "Restaurant" category in the area.

For those of you who may be unaware, the scheme enables customers to make an informed choice about where they choose to eat. The star rating is awarded based on a number of criteria, nearly all of which relate to things you could never hope to check up on from the public side of the counter!

Very many thanks to everyone who has contributed to this excellent result

    Andre (K&ESR Catering Manager)

    Hello and greetings to all,

I'm currently desparately struggling to get work in the catering industry, Because i have never done catering in a proffessional environment nobody will even give me a chance to proove my worth.

Its that old catch 22... You need experience, to get experience, to get a job.
So in light of this i'd really like to do some volunteer catering, Im hoping that without money being involved i will stand more of a chance.

If anyone here knows of anybody i can contact about volunteer catering i would be very gratefull.
I currently live on the isle of sheppey, but would be more than willing to travel anywhere in kent.

    Thanks
    -Alex.

PM me your contact details, we'll have you Silver Serving on the Wealden Pullman in no time!
I am part of the catering department at the K&ESR and a Pullman Conductor.

Or PM Andre, who is a few posts above, he is the Catering Manager.

  9. All a far cry from making endless piles of sandwiches using Mother's Pride and cheapo marg in Theodora with the redoubtable Ken Lee. Happy days, all too long ago now.

and did you get a word in edgeways? once ken starts etc etc , anyway very well done everyone it goes to show just how different things are now, cateering is a major fuction on any preserved railway and you have to get it right, the public expect nothing short of perfection and the days when you could offer just sandwiches and a cup or tea in a chipped mug are very much over you have to compete with the pubs and resturants these days if you want to get the publics money
