Very impressive ... to do such a big project using volunteers. At £150K that must be a massive saving compared with commercial prices.

What are they going to do with all those Pacers? I don't suppose that Northern Rail will need them back anytime soon.

They all went out to play on the Aire Valley line last week in batches of 3 or more.

Interesting. Presumably just exercising, to keep them in working order.

I assume they'll have to go elsewhere if KWVR wants to run full line services.

The most important thing is that the wheel bearings will need to be rotated every couple of weeks to stop them brinnelling (getting dents and hardening). Though you can usually get away with moving them up and down a few feet rather than several miles!

We always used to find an excuse to run the 50's up at the SVR during the winter about 20 odd years ago! Don't want that main genny getting damp do we? :)

Just read that Northern are keeping the Pacers and 153s in service until the end of the year, to provide longer trains for social distancing.

They'll have to remove them from the KWVR if full line services are going to restart.

Lovely shot. On all my photos of right hand drive 4Fs from the sixties the tenders don't have coal rails.

To me, the 4F is the flagship of the line. It just belongs to be. The Ivatt tank is next favourite of mine, and the red KWVR livery suits fine. Happy memories of 1968 and my first term at Leeds University.

There are certain loco’s you associate with certain lines, The Crab at the Lancs, 6443, at the SVR, 4555 at Dartmouth for example but the 4F and the Ivatt really fit like a glove at Keighley :)
