    LCLRHVT Open day

The Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway Historic Vehicles Trust is to hold an open day on Saturday 14th June at its site at the Skegness Water Leisure Park, Ingoldmells, Skegness, PE25 2JF.

There will be demonstration trains of preserved rolling stock from World War 1, including trench tramway equipment and the only complete Ambulance Van.

There will also be stock from the Nocton Estates Light Railway, demonstrating how agriculture in Lincolnshire ‘industrialised’ the surplus equipment from the war for production of potatoes and other produce. Trains will be hauled by some of the Simplex Diesel locomotives of the LCLR.

A passenger service will also provide rides and run on an hourly timetable from 11.00am to 3 pm.

The varied collection of the Trust will also be on display. Photographers are advised to book lineside passes by e-mail in advance.

This will also be the last look at 1903 built steam locomotive ‘Jurassic’ before the start of its major overhaul. The loco last operated on the original LCLR at Humberston which closed in 1985. The stock was relocated and a new railway built over the next 20 years at the Skegness Water Leisure Park. The railway reopened to the public in 2009 using diesel locos and historic coaches from the Ashover light Railway.

The volunteers are now ready to take on the major challenge of overhauling Jurassic and intend to have the loco running by 2016. Major boiler repairs are needed and some mechanical overhaul work.

The Trust has already secured some major donations, but with cost expected to be at least £30,000 we are exploring a number of ways of raising the funds.

The appeal information is on the trusts website at http://lclrhvt.bravesites.com/
and www.davesrailpics.co.uk” site (which extensive coverage of the line going back to 1960).
