Less than a month to go until 125 mph running on Midland Mainline

East Midlands Trains is preparing for the launch of its quicker services, with less than a month to go until the start of regular 125 mph running on the Midland Mainline.

Network Rail has invested £70 million improving sections of the line to allow trains to reach operational speeds of 125 mph for the very first time.

The faster trains will shorten the journey between Sheffield and London by seven minutes, Nottingham and London by five minutes and Derby and London by four minutes.

David Horne, Managing Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “Along with our partners Network Rail, we’ve been working on a significant improvement scheme to deliver faster journey times from some of the key cities and towns on our network.

“Following the improvements made over the summer, we now have a railway around Nottingham that has modern, new infrastructure that will enable more capacity on the network and allow us to continue to grow passenger numbers which all helps to improve the economies of the areas we serve.”
