MOSI are pleased to announce that the 180th Anniversary of the opening of the worlds first passenger railway will be marked with a small event at Liverpool Road station, within Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.

On Sat & Sun 11th/12th and 17th/18th September, regular trains at MOSI hauled by replica 1830 2.2.0 "Planet" will be joined by replica 1829 "Rocket" courtesy of the National Railway Museum York. Trains will alternate from with these two locos and their relavant coaches. Visitors midweek will be able to celebrate the actual day of the lines opening on Wednesday 15th with both "Rocket" and "Planet" alternating on service trains and weather permitting, items of rolling stock normally kept inside the powerhall will be dispalyed outside. Fares for passengers remain at £1.00 each for the 1 mile journey through the historic Liverpool Road site.

Further details will follow as they are confirmed.

I can further update this with confirmed times:
    Saturday and Sundays 11th, 12th, 17th and 18th, trains will run 10am-5pm.
Wednesday 15th, trains will run 12noon-4pm.

(Please note a private charter is booked for Tuesday evening with both "Rocket" and "Planet" but will not include any public rides and viewing of the locos will be closed to the public after 5pm.)

On all public running days, "Planet" will alternate operating with "Rocket" at hourly intervals.
Yet to be confirmed are the stock consists- "Planet" will operate with x2 replica L&MR 1835 2nd class coaches, and possibly (but subject to availability) with the Manchester and Birmingham Railway 1st class coach.
"Rocket" will haul replica 1830 L&MR 2nd class (open) coach and hopefully (subject to confirmation) the replica L&MR 1st class coach.
