There was some talk a few years ago about the possibility of the Llanberis Lake Railway extending, possibly along the exx--LNWR trackbed into Carnarfon? Presumably the project is dead now? Can anyone provide any more info?

last i heard they were trying to a build a line to go all around the lake but sadly not along the old line....if only they would follow the rest of the padarn railway ;)

I do not know about the proposal but it does seem a bit unlikely as whilst the quarry hunslets are cracking little loco's I am not sure they are ideal for a 6 or 7 mile run. In my view they would need to completely revamp their loco and carriage fleet. I think there might also be some objections about their being direct competituion to the WHR considering how much public money went into it as I think Llanberis would be an attractive destination to many from Caernafon

I had an idea that the proposal was floated as the next step for the FR's expansion after they had completed Rheilffordd Eryri - building a line from Caernarfon to an end-on connection with Rheilfford Llyn Padarn. If it had been built then presumably the FR would have supplied the rolling stock. I thought it had been dropped, but then, a rebuilt Welsh Pony might be the ideal loco to run on it........

I think it was only the equivalent of pub talk, certainly nothing official. I guess its now dawned on people just how much time and money is needed to 'complete' the WHR and so talk of further extensions, however fanciful, has pretty much dried up...

...that said, railway enthusiasts being railway enthusiasts will no doubt mean as the years and decades go by Bangor/Llanberis/Bala will be spoken of ever more frequently, and if theres some substantial donations and bequests as a result, who knows?
