Hot on the heels of a very successful Classic Transport Weekend will be our 7th 1960's weekend.

This will be the 7th event to use the popular formula of steam, diesel and railcars working an intensive and varied timetable along with live music and a real ale bar at Llangollen, free vintage bus rides between Llangollen and Corwen and a large classic car rally at Glyndyfrdwy.

3 steam locomotives are likely to be in use: GWR Manor class 7822 "Foxcote Manor", GWR 2-6-2T 5199 and BR standard class 4 tank 80072 (subject to availability). One of these should get our now-famous special temporary weathering treatment for the weekend.

The diesel roster will be Class 26 diesel number D5310, in 1960's green livery with original train describer discs will run on Saturday 23rd. Class 37, 6940 in 60s era BR blue with headcode blinds will run on Sunday 24th.

The superbly restored Class 109 Wickham DMU is likely to complete the line-up of trains to enjoy a nostalgic trip on through the scenic Dee Valley, which is a real joy to see at this time of year.

Free vintage bus rides will be on offer between Llangollen and Corwen, using two vehicles from the North West Museum of transport, calling at Berwyn and Glyndyfrdwy en route.

Music and Dr Beechings real ale bar can be enjoyed on Llangollen station on Saturday 23rd, culminating in a lively concert with singers and a band between 7:30 and 10pm. Free entry to the bar and station all weekend.

A vintage vehicle rally will be staged at Glyndyfrdwy station, where there is a café, The Cambrian real ale bar and an interesting station shop to browse.

Come in a 60's era car to our rally and claim two free rover tickets. If you are interested in displaying your vintage car please contact llangollen.railway@btinternet.com

Minor query Rossi - is it not Carrog that has both the cafe and space for the vintage vehicle rally ?

Glyn has a volunteer run cafe and bar with which the taking are put back into restoring the station, like Berwyn. We use the farmers field behind Glyn station. Whilst we could use Carrog, the field there is usually used for camping.

Possibly! This is only the seventh year we've run the event, using essentially the same format ;)

Thanks to all those involved, it was a brilliant event as always! Is there any chance next year there will be a chance of multiple diesels out? Or if the diesel only running days will be brought back?

Glad you enjoyed it Barry. All our running days this year are alongside steam or railcar, we have one more to come on the 25th September, which should be 6940 as D5310 is now visiting the Spa Valley Railway until the end of October. We hope to have more running days this year, but whether they will be exclusively diesel remains to be seen. We would love to hold another gala - and hope to do something along these lines when D1566 is re-launched to traffic, which will hopefully be some time next year.

A brilliant gala. 7822 looked great with Iain's weathering. The trains appeared to be well loaded although I've not seen the figures yet.
The live music on the platform at Llangollen together with the real ale bar really added atmosphere to the event. We should have a competition for the silliest sixties outfit, as I don't remember seeing some of those outfits in the sixties!
Well done to all of those involved in the organisation & operation of this event.

    Bob.
