Not sure yet. First heard she'd be staying SVR for their autumn gala, but now that's gone quiet. Wait and see.

 

Well, thats a surprise to me! Thought we were getting Nunney Castle for September. But still, a Hall will look quite splendid in the Dee Valley.

 

5029 has mainline commitments so the guys had to say no
Hopefully we are able to put on a good show for our 35th Anniversary weekend. September 13th 1975 was when Austin 1 hauled the first ever service along Llangollen Plat 1, which signalled the beginning of what we have today.

 

Fair enough, suppose mainline commitments have to come first. That's where they make their money.

A Swindon-built Western Region internal combustion interloper is expected to star in the event on the Friday and Saturday - well it is GWR 175 after all!

D9521 should be running on Friday 10th and Sunday 12th.

 

Yep sorry mis-read the 'leaflet' Sarah put on the website. Notice Craig's Leaflet is in the new Heritage Railway Mag and looks spot on, though no mention of D9521.

Hope not, this is a steam gala! This event costs me a lot of money to attend, as I travel from London. The diesel enthusiasts have their own events and I'm sure that they get a lot of enjoyment from them, but please would the diesel group at Llangollen keep their enthusiasm for the genre within bounds. The timetable for Friday is usually pretty sparse and finishes early without one of the paths being taken up by a diesel. It's not as though Swindon got it right with the D95XX class. There is nothing to celebrate in the class, surely.

From my understanding, as its an event celebrating GWR175 and Class 14s do represent part of these 175 years, then the Teddy Bear is to play a part in the gala on the Friday and Sunday only. She is only visiting for a short time and so the choice has been made to allow as many people as possible to see her run.

 

Now you know how diesel enthusiasts feel when certain lines (though not Llangollen, it has to be said) insist on having one or more steam turns during the diesel gala! :lol:

 

This event is a celebration of 175 years of GWR, BR(W) and everything else that had anything to do with Swindon, aswell as being the 35th anniversary of the Llangollen Railway Preservation Society. So D9521 being a Swindon built machine has every right to be working.

On the Friday you have a choice to ride behind 5 western steam locos, so i'm sure if you work out you travelling plan correctly you can avoid going behind the 95xx... So 6 loco's in use on 1 day. That will be a rather intense timetable...

From looking at your username, i'm sure you would be quite a fan of our Class 47!!!

 

My user name comes from one of the locos on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, who, in turn, got it from one of the stage coaches the railway replaced. There were a number of 'Orions' after this, one I particularly remember being a Beyer, Peacock 0-4-0T in Oldham.

I tend not to ride behind engines because I find the experience of the Mk1 TSO to be a particularly dull one. I did recently ride from Portmadoc to Blaenau Ffestiniog in one of the railway's old carriages and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, but I generally prefer to be just beyond the boundary fence filming. I do buy a day or two day rover to contribute to whichever event, but I prefer to see the railway from outside.

This event is a steam event not a 'mixed traffic' and I feel that the diesel fans have 'their' galas and that is the place for diesels. I thoroughly sympathise with 'Robert Heath No6' about the railways imposing steam at a diesel gala, I feel this shows a contempt for their customers which is completely unacceptable. It happens, but it is wrong. Perhaps the diesel community should protest by organising a boycott when a railway does this. I have certainly stayed away from 'steam' galas which have put up diesels instead of steam. After the experience on the NYMR earlier this year I won't be going there again in a hurry!
