Our Spring Diesel Day is coming up on Saturday March 31st. 4 locos expected in traffic; Class 26 D5310, Class 31 5580, Class 37 6940 & Class 14 D1566 plus the Class 104 DMU on a busy timetable that includes an evening trip for 5580, hopefully with some exhaust pyrotechnics!

Day rover ticket available at Adult £18, Senior £15, Child £10, Family Ticket (2 Adults + 2 Children) £45

D5310 is available for traffic, 6940 was successfully brought out of storage on Saturday and undertook a test run with no problems. Further updates to follow on 5580 and D1566 on our website.

Timetable and more event information available at: Spring Diesel Day & Shuntex – 31st March & 1st April 2012 | Heritage Traction on the Llangollen Railway

The Llan station shunter shuttles will not be running this time but the good news is that it has been replaced by something with a little more mileage on offer - 14 to be exact! With grateful thanks to PLEG, there will be a Shunter Charter from Llan to Carrog and back on the day after the Diesel Day - Sunday 1st April using 08195 and Davy top and tailed on 4 Mk1s.

PLEG have chartered this working themselves and will be handling the bookings. Tickets are £15. Takings are split between the Railway and the LDG to go towards the Corwen extension and things like a top end overhaul on D1566. The trip should leave Llan around 08:30am and be back in time for the day's steam service to start. Charter tickets will be valid on the day's steam service, for those who fancy a bit of kettle haulage afterwards. Regrettably diesel day rovers are not valid on the charter.

The charter has already sold over 60 tickets, so if you are interested in a ride behind something different, please get in touch with Kev Adlam to book a place - kev.adlam@pleg.org.uk or visit PLEG - Preserved Locomotive Enthusiasts Group

    Should be a good weekend!

    Best wishes

Re: Llangollen Railway Spring Diesel Day & PLEG Shunter Charter - 31st March & 1st Ap

Event timetable and diagrams available at: Spring Diesel Day & Shuntex – 31st March & 1st April 2012 | Heritage Traction on the Llangollen Railway

6940 has been successfully woken up from winter slumber earlier this month. Battery issues have prevented D1566 from being started and the loco will need a new set soon. D5310 is available for traffic. A1A will be with us soon to check over 5580 after the winter lay up. As soon as I have further news on the 31 and 47 I will update the thread.

The link below takes you to a very atmopsheric recent shot of the fleet on shed taken by Paul Williams with his phone between jobs:

The shunter shuttle has now sold 70 tickets - a staggering response and one which will bring in some much-needed funds for both Railway and LDG - thanks to all those who have booked. Tickets are still available, and will also be sold on the day.

    Many thanks
