    I think you'll find that this one was taken on or around 7 Feb 1963, when 60103 undertook a load trial run from Doncaster to Grantham and back, during its light overhaul, prior to hand-over to Alan Pegler. The give-aways are the removal of the smokebox numberplate, restoration of the single chimney, repositioning of the top lamp bracket and the provision of a corridor tender (ex-60034), replacing the non-corridor tender, which she had had since 1938 - there is also snow on the ground, as per the trial run pictures!

    'Flying Scotsman' has been so well documented over the years that it is usually possible to identify fairly accurately any given period, from the detail of its appearance - in this case, it never actually ran in BR service in precisely this configuration.
