An interesting Youtube video has been published, showing the manufacture of the first component for the replica gasoliers for ECJS 189, the 1894 3rd class dining car. Watch it to the end for some glimpses inside the carriage - they are well worth the wait!

For more pics of 189 and also news of progress on other Gresley and Thompson carriages in the LNERCA collection have a look at: http://www.lnerca.org/home/news-and-updates/

That would be why you can't see it then. You would need a Facebook account even if you're not a member of the LNERCA Facebook group.

Sorry, hadn't thought of that! In that case you might need to be patient and wait for the same photos etc to be uploaded to the LNERCA website news page. It will be worth the wait, though!

I'm intrigued as to the proposed use for 189 when it is finished? Occasional or regular use, teak set or dining set, NYMR or elsewhere... Sorry if that's been asked before, it's certainly a very different vehicle to the usual Gresley/Thompson pool.

I can't quite get over the extravagant design and quality of restoration on this one

Use hasn't been decided yet - I don't think the NYMR has decided whether they can find a use for it yet, and it definitely will not be a day-to-day use vehicle. If the NYMR ultimately decide that they don't want it, it will be offered out for hire to other railways. Hopefully it will find use as a special dining saloon on the NYMR though, perhaps for themed dining nights.

This was a very special vehicle with a quality interior finish when built, despite only being a third class diner, and the LNERCA has always aimed to the best quality and most authentic finish that it can manage. I think the term "stunning" is much overused, but in this case it will not be!

Yes, terribly sad news that will take a lot of coming to terms with and recovering from. There are some fulsome tributes out there but they only tell part of the story - he will be terribly missed.
