Hi all, most probably haven't heard about the Bishop's Castle Railway Society, or our small museum in the old station weighbridge in Bishop's Castle.
We recently acquired a former RNAD LNWR D88 van from the Midland Railway Centre, which we're going to restore/conserve as a static exhibit to house our model of the station and other exhibits.
I'm planning to create an information board for visitors, but we have very little solid information as yet. I've been trying to find out something about the van's history. I heard from a former owner that it was bought from an auction at Lodge on the Wold, Notts, in the early 1990s (reportedly there were around 50 vehicles there at the time).
The van then moved to the Midland Railway Centre in the mid-90s and was sold on again to "Peter". Since then it's passed through possible a couple of other owners who weren't able to restore it. We obtained it at the end of November.
Does anyone know anything more about the Lodge auction please - even have a photograph? And similarly, are there any photographs or information about its time at the Midland Railway Centre. Apparently it has run, possibly once, there, but for the last couple of decades has been moved around, deteriorating each time.
The number 62272 is stamped on the solebar, although I haven't yet had a chance to investigate where this is.

We've still not found any more information on the wagon other than is available in the LNWR wagon book or easily searchable online. Maybe someone's memory can be jogged!

The museum is open 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month, if anyone wants to come down and have a look through the year at progress - or offer advice, bring information or just talk about the railways/the Bishop's Castle Railway over a cup of tea. The museum is at the bottom Station Street, Bishop's Castle, Shropshire. Open 11am-3pm
