Missed your post mate. I put up a link in reply to Mark's query. It's a sugar cane train as part of a festival so not a regular thing although there are also very similar pics of diesel hauled in the same location. Loco No5 is now located at Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Musuem Society and still a runner by the looks - although they seem to be doing their level best to recreate a 2ft Barry scrapyard. Anyone care to save a WD Hunslet 4-6-0t?

They certainly wouldn't be the only location with more to restore than hands on deck. This is a new location to me. I'll leave the link here for anyone else interested.

You are more than likely right - more locos than hands. My comment was possibly overly critical because it comes from sadness. Where would these engines be if not there? You can't save them all but a roof would not go astray....

Many of these old QLD 2ft cane locos were plinthed in council parks or even used as part of the playground equipment alongside slippery slides and round-a-bouts! I remember playing on them as a boy back in the 80's on various family trips around the state. H&S has put paid to that now! Some do still remain in parks and standard gauge locos too (thats 3'6" to me!), but mostly behind barriers.

Interesting! I hadn't heard anything about ownership of this section transferring to the L&B, however, it is owned by a member. As you mention, it was worked on during the last working weekend. Details here, here and here. I have no doubt that there are other land acquisitions in the offing, and hopefully the planning applications will be decided in the next couple of months.

Does anyone know how easy it'll be for the L&B to get a new turnout for killington lane to allow Lyn to run round?
Will they have to get a brand new one made, or is there a second hand market for 600mm turnouts?

You don't really buy a turnout. The main part is the crossing, which is the 'V' shaped bit where the two diverging rails join. The angle of that part defines the geometry of the whole. The diverging rails are just rails, bent to suit, and the switch rails really only vary in length.
I think the L&B are using 40lb rail, which is not uncommon, so if they can obtain a 40lb crossing of a gentler angle than the one currently in use, then it's time for Jim Crow and the big hammers

As Killington Lane is (hopefully) only a temporary terminus I wonder if they've considered re-aligning the existing turnout as a Y to ease the radii using the existing components.

Won't work unfortunately. As ross said [post#831] above, the critical item is the angle of the 'V' which defines the geometry. You might just get away with the resulting jarring change of direction for hand shoved wagons, but no-one would recommend running services over it!

Isn't the crossing angle ('V') for a Y with both roads curved twice that of a turnout with one straight road for the same minimum radius? The turnout is well beyond the end of the actual platform IIRC so a slight curve on the platform road might not be elegant but could be accommodated. The angle of the crossing on the timbers would need adjusting and rails bent so just as much work as a new turnout but at least the existing components could be re-used.

Alan Keef's would be the first place I'd ask, or ring the Ffesterbahn see what they've got. You could try Ryder's, but I don't think they keep smaller than 80lb rail in stock. They could probably source one though.

Probably would depending on the track centres of loop and platform line.

Though the digram looks plausible enough, my own knowledge of specialised track components is sadly lacking. Forgive me if I await a verdict from a PW wallah. :)
