50455 George Hughes 5P-A. Introduced 1908. Hughes Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway (LYR) Class N1 design, rebuilt in 1921. Superheated Lankey Bombers, fifteen of which were rebuilt from the original saturated design of 1908. These rebuilt locos came into service in the very last years of the L&YR's independance. In the early days of the LMS they were, along with the Claughtons, the mainstay of the express services on the West Coast main line until the coming of the Royal Scots in 1927. 50455 was the only engine to receive its BR number, Blackpool 22/1/1950 withdrawn in 1952 (David Taylor)
