As I wait christmas to arrive, I thought I'd do a few stats based on data in UKSteams website...

Number of Tours listed = 579
Number Repeat tours = 228 (ie. Jacobite, Scarborough, Cambrian etc)
    Number of Tours - Repeats = 351

    Number Canceled = 60 (10% overall, 17% excl repeats)
Number of Locomotive Substitutes = 56 (10% overall, 16% excl repeats)
Number locomotives failed on train = 10 (2% overall, 3% excl repeats)

Advertised Fully booked = 27 (5% overall, 8% excl repeats)
    Double Headed = 37 (6% overall, 11% excl repeats)

Overall I think the stats speak for themselves, generally in non-safety critical / time systems figures of >80% (i.e less than 20% deviation) can be considered good and above 90%/10% excellent.

An on train fail rate of 2-3% is probably better than some TOCs.

    * source data was UKSteam info, obviously this is my own unofficial calculations, probably with some errors, just for fun.

John, I take it that you are taking your fully booked info from UKSteam.
On the last 4 of this years Scarborough Flyers, Wakefield to York was always full since the last passenegrs boarded at Wakefield but then some from Crewe and Stockport left at York. But I suppose this can be classed as fully booked.
I also sure that the last two Cumbrian Mountains from Crewe and the last North Wales Coast from Liverpol were also full.
Don't know if anyone can add to this with info on the Torbays and the Jacobites.

Yes fully booked was just those marked on UK steams website as such,
I'm sure many more were full.

These stats are interesting, given the source from which they were gleaned. The cancellations figures are, in reality, probably rather better, given that there are a fair number of tours, which appear on UKSteam listing, yet never get beyond the ideas stage and certainly not past me, ie. submitted to NR. The same may be true of the substitutions, where initial loco allocations are often wishful thinking.

Of course, the 'tour full' stats are really only known to the promoters.

    An intriguing effort, nonetheless, John.

i would of thought most tours are fully booked, the three i were on the waverely, tall ships, and the royal scot certainly were, so it seems to me if you don't get in early you could miss out.

Indeed the only tours marked as fully booked at uksteam.info are those which the tour promoter has advertised as being full, or has asked me to show them as full. In practice, there are undoubtedly quite a few other fully booked tours in addition to these.

Has anyone any info on the total mileage of steam on the mainline in 2010, including LE moves?
